The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda launched the “Kisan Rakshak Helpline 14447 and Portal”, “Agri-Insurance Sandbox Framework Platform SARTHI” and “Learning Management System (LMS) Platform”, under the central government’s “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) scheme. The initiatives are focused on reducing the risks like crop failures and increasing farmer’s income.
In 2016, the government launched Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bina Yojna (PMFBY) to safeguard crops from unpredictable climates by providing crop insurance to farmers. Since then, it has benefited farmers in claiming and grievance processes. However, they needed more assistance with their queries and to help them out, and address their challenges, the government introduced Krishi Rakshak Portal and Helpline (KRPH) to help them obtain on-time assistance without hassle.
The platform has made communication easier by using multi-lingual support, making it more transparent and understandable. Additionally, now the farmers can get real-time resolutions of grievances such as delays in compensation, and insurance-related queries.
Union Minister Shri Arjun Munda said, “India is the country of farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture is working continuously under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to support and empower the farmers. Keeping this in mind, efforts are being made to increase the income of farmers and make them self-sufficient through the schemes run by the Government.”
He added that the government is making continuous efforts in this direction. Along with KRPH, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the Sandbox Framework, and LMS Platform have also been launched. With these, the Union Agriculture Minister emphasized that the Government is focusing on leveraging technology to empower and improve farmers’ lives.
The Learning Management System (LMS), which has been developed in collaboration with the National E-Governance Division (NeGD) primarily aims to provide essential skills to the farmers, insurance companies, Government officials, and all the stakeholders. This will be carried out through interactive modules and personalized training programs. With this, all stakeholders will deepen their understanding of crop insurance protocols, agriculture practices, and financial mechanisms.
Apart from these initiatives, the government has also started an insurance platform “SARTHI” a comprehensive digital insurance platform in collaboration with UNDP India to provide coverage to health, life, shop, home, agriculture implements, motors and parametric products, etc. This will minimize the multi-faceted risk faced by the farmers. SARTHI can be used by downloading the AIDE app from the app store.
Together, the three projects seek to promote the development of the farmer community holistically so that the agriculture industry can flourish with resilience and unwavering innovation.
